Exodus

Outline Of Exodus

I. Beginning of Bondage in Egypt (1).

II. Birth, Call, and Training of Moses (2—7:18).

III. The First Nine Plagues (7:19—10:29).

IV. The Passover and the Death of the Firstborn (11:1 — 12:30).

V. The Exodus front Egypt (12:31 — 15:21).

VI. The Journey to Sinai (15:22—19:2).

VII. The Giving of the Law (19:3—24:18).

VIII. The Tabernacle and the Priesthood (25—40).

A. Instructions for building of tabernacle (25—27, 30—31).

B. Consecration of the priesthood (28. 29).

C. Idolatry (32, 33).

D. Covenant renewed (34:1—35:3).

E. Preparation of tabernacle furnishings (35:4—38:31).

F. Preparation of priestly garments (39).

G. Erection of the tabernacle (40).

Chapter 1

Historically, Exodus is the story of Israel’s deliverance from Egypt. Doctrinally, it is the story of redemption, based on the blood of the Passover lamb, displayed in the crossing of the Red Sea, and resulting in God’s dwelling among His people in the Tabernacle.

To really enjoy the book of Exodus, we need to look for Christ in it. Moses, the Passover lamb, the rock, and the tabernacle are only a few of the types (symbols) of the Lord Jesus, many of which are referred to elsewhere in Scripture (see, for example 1 Cor. 5:7; 10:4; Heb. chs. 3—10). May the Lord do for us what He did for the two disciples on the road to Emmaus—interpret to us in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself (Luke 24:27).

Introduction

For convenience in study. Old Testament history is generally divided into ages or time-periods. One common treatment of these ages is as follows:

1. From Creation to the Fall.

2. From the Fall to the Flood.

3. From the Flood to the Tower of Babel.

4. From Babel to Abraham.

5. From Abraham to Moses.

6. From Moses to Joshua.

7. From Joshua to Samuel.

8. The United Kingdom.

9. The Divided Kingdom.

10. The Babylonian Captivity.

11. The Restoration from Captivity,

12. The Four Hundred Silent Years between the Old Testament and the New Testament.

Another familiar division of the Old Testament is:

1. Historical: Genesis through Esther.

2. Wisdom and Poetical: Job through Song of Solomon.

3. Prophetical: Isaiah through Malachi.

The books in the Historical section, with a few exceptions, follow each other chronologically in recording the events from creation to the return from Babylonian captivity. Nehemiah brings the reader to the close of the narrative, approximately 400 years before the birth of Christ. (The events in the book of Esther took place during the time of Ezra).

The Wisdom and Poetry books belong to various periods of Old Testament history. Job, for example, belongs to the early part of Genesis, just before Abraham. The Psalms of David belong to 1 and 2 Samuel. Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Solomon relate to the time of Solomon, recorded in 1 Kings.

Marvelous Grace

Marvelous Grace - from an audio message October 29, 2006 - Bill MacDonald

Romans Chapter 12:1-2. Jesus Christ Died For Us.

Oftentimes when we think of him we think of his humanity, don't we? But the Lord Jesus came down from heaven and took upon himself, upon God, something He never had before, that was humanity.

It is astounding really, astounding, nothing like it in the history of the universe.

But what really is astounding is that God in a body of flesh went to the cross of Calvary and died. That man hanging on the cross bound by nails feet and hands was God. Amazing! In fact I think it is a thought beyond all thought. Probably the greatest thought that has ever entered the human mind. True.

I tell you we're grappling with great truths when we come to the Word of God aren't we?

He didn't have to do it! He could have just brushed us off the table into Hell.

But in marvelous grace He decided to die for us anonymous nobodies, that's what we were.

We deserved eternal death. You know, the Lord Jesus was the only person in the universe who was qualified to be our Saviour.

He had to be God, he had to be man, He had to be willing.

The marvelous thing is that the God-man was willing to go to the cross and pour out his blood his life blood for you and for me. Wonderful wonderful Jesus. He paid too high a price. To vanquish for us every foe.

Consider these quotes by some great Saints: "You'll never appreciate Calvary, until it takes your breath away and becomes the most important thing in your life." And "From the beginning of time until now, and on into eternity, Calvary is the only thing that ever happened."

That's a Good Question

Introduction

Nothing happens in life by chance. Everything is planned or permitted.

It was no chance that this booklet came into your hands.

It contains truths which, if accepted, could change the whole direction of your life. Not only that—it tells you how you can enjoy forgiveness of sins, peace with God, and the assurance of a home in heaven after this life is over.

The following pages answer questions that you may have been thinking. Certainly it answers questions that everyone should be asking.

Take a few minutes to read it carefully.

The last answer is the crucial one. If you take the action that is described, you will be forever grateful.

Guarantee

The Bible carries a guarantee with it. You’ll find it in John 7:17. It’s a promise from God that anyone who sincerely wants to know the truth will find it.

Put it to the test. Ask God to reveal Himself to you. Then as you read this booklet, pay particular attention to the Bible verses that are quoted.

The next few minutes could be the most important ones in your life. If you respond to God’s message as found in His Word, you will be the possessor of eternal life.

What is the most important thing in life?

It’s important to have health, but it’s not of maximum importance, because some time in the normal course of events we will all have to die.

Take a few minutes to read this and you will find the answers.

What is your authority?

In seeking answers to life’s most important questions, we must have some authority. The choice narrows down to two possibilities. It is either man’s opinion or the Word of God. It’s what people suppose or it’s what God says.

In matters of vital and enduring significance, it must be an infallible authority. There must be no room for error. Human opinion certainly doesn’t qualify here. Just as people’s faces differ, so do their opinions.

Only the Bible, the Word of God, is infallible. We should never forget that the gospel is the good news of the glory of Christ. True, it concerns the One who was crucified and who was buried. But He is no longer on the Cross, no longer in the Tomb. He has risen, has ascended to heaven, and is the glorified Man at God’s right hand.

We do not present Him as the humble Carpenter of Nazareth, the suffering Servant or the Stranger of Galilee. Neither do we present H...

“Are there not twelve hours in the day?” Qohn 11:9)

When Jesus suggested going back to Judea, the disciples were terrified. The Jews had tried to stone Him there only recently, and now He was talking about a return visit. In answer to the disciples’ apprehension, Jesus said, “Are there not twelve hours in the day?” At first glance, the question seems to be completely disconnected from the conversation. But what the Savior was saying was this! The working day is made u...

“…in Him you have been made complete.” (Col. 2:10 NASB)

Contrary to popular opinion, there are no degrees of fitness for heaven. A person is either absolutely fit or he is not fit at all. This goes counter to the common notion that at the top of God’s totem pole are good, clean-living people, at the bottom are the crooks and mobsters, and in between are those with varying degrees of fitness for heaven. It is an enormous mistake. We are either fit or we aren’t. There i...

“If ye ask anything in my name, I will do it.” (John 14:14)

God answers prayer. He answers it exactly the same way we would if we had infinite wisdom, love and power. Sometimes He gives us what we want, sometimes He gives us something better, but always what we need. Sometimes He answers our prayers quickly; at other times He teaches us to wait patiently. God answers prayer; sometimes when hearts are weak, He gives the very gifts His children seek. But often faith must learn ...

“And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a -prosperous man.” (Gen. 39:2)

I have heard that one of the earliest versions of the English Bible translated this verse, “And the Lord was with Joseph, and he was a luckye fellow.” Perhaps “luckye” at that time had a different meaning. At any rate we are glad that later translators removed Joseph from the realm of luck.

For the child of God there is no luck. His life is controlled, guarded, planned by a loving heavenly F...
