Revelation: Chapter 21

Read Revelation 21:1-8 - With the conclusion of Rev. 20, the events of time are all in the past. Beginning with Ch. 21, God unveils eternity before our eyes. The key phrase is found in Revelation 21:5, “Behold I make all things new.” In this chapter and Rev. 22:1-5, we are introduced to all things new: A new heaven, a new earth, a new Jerusalem, a new relationship between God and man, new conditions for redeemed man, a new eternal home for the bride, a new glory, and a new temple.

First Heaven Destroyed - Rev. 21:1 refers to a “new heaven” and a “new earth.” This statement has always intrigued me. I understand how there must be a new earth in the eternal state. Every vestige of sin and evil must be eternally destroyed. But why should there be a new heaven? Isn’t heaven, God’s house, perfect in every respect? Then, why should it be destroyed? Note the words in verse one, “The first heaven was passed away.”

We read Gen 1:1 in our KJV, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” In the original language the word for heaven is plural – heavens. There are actually three heavens mentioned in the Scriptures. The first heaven (the atmospheric heaven) is the firmament of Genesis 1. It is the expanse that is just above the earth - the cloudy heavens. The second heaven is the heaven of the stars – the stellar heaven. The third heaven is spoken of as Paradise in 2 Cor. 12:2-4. This is undoubtedly God’s dwelling place (Absolute Holiness).

Revelation: Chapter 16

In Revelation 14, we saw God’s reluctant, but final decision to close the gates of heaven to any further entrants. In His great foreknowledge, God knows that every unbeliever alive on the earth at that time will have hardened his heart against the Gospel and will never come to Him. Therefore, He prepares to release the final judgments on the earth.

The Bowls of Wrath

Revelation 16:1 - This verse depicts a great voice booming out of the smoke-filled temple. This voice gave the seven angels orders to pour out the bowls of wrath that had been given to them.

Revelation 16:2 - “There fell a foul and painful sore open on those who had received the mark of the beast and who worshiped his image.” This sore will be worse than anything man has ever experienced. It will be so foul and painful that cancer and leprosy will be trivial by comparison. No known drug will cure these sores. Even the Antichrist with his supernatural abilities will not be able to cure these malignancies. On the other hand, God will supernaturally protect the believers from this horrible plague. “Be not deceived, God is not mocked.” Compare this with the plague of boils in Exodus 9:8-11.

Bowl No. 2

Revelation 16:3 - “The sea became like the blood of a dead man.” In essence, the waters congeal like blood and every living creature that lived therein died. In Rev. 8, only a third of the sea became blood and only a third of the marine life died. In this judgment, all marine life is going to be wiped out. The whole earth will be affected. Sea transportation will be paralyzed. The former series of judgments (seals & trumpets) have increased gradually in measured progression. In the bowl judgments, all the stops are out.

Hell

A man came to me the other day and said: "I like your preaching.  You don't preach hell, and I suppose you don't believe in one." Now I don't want any one to rise up in the Judgment and say that I was not a faithful preacher of the Word of God.  It is my duty to preach God's Word just as He gives it to me; I have no right to pick out a text here and there, and say, "I don't believe that." If I throw out one text I mu...

Three Questions

Undoubtedly this is the day of the questionnaire. Quiz programs were never so prevalent and popular as today. For several years one of the best known programs on the radio was called “Information Please.” It consisted of all sorts of questions being put to a team of experts, and their knowledge tested on a wide variety of subjects, at the expense of the company who sponsored the program. At other quiz programs, huge sums of money and valu able prizes are given away to those who are f...
